The Aweber autoresponder and newsletter service also has Blog Broadcaster, which can turn your RSS stream into emails. However if you only send blog alerts containing a link to the web-based blog article then perhaps you are not quite fitting in with the reader's own rhythm.

If someone reads their email regularly offline, for example whilst travelling on planes and trains, then you risk them seeing only the title of your blog article. If you do not offer them the ability to consume the content of your article there and then, you may risk loosing the loyalty of that reader.

Hi Art

A goal is a goal is a goal no matter what. Decision made is 100% better than keeping doubting yes/no/perhaps.
Presumably you now also get more focus on all tasks ahead (including time with your young children ;-))

BTW: does your thinking make our business us a Twotrepreneurs? ;-)

Hi Art

Thanks for the mentioning(s).

I agree with your conclusion: you have to make time to become a reliable source of either sharing ideas, building a micro-community and/or get that commercial messages out. And that's where most stumble.
As with other task/job it takes commitment to be reliable.

But oh, the rewards (personal and commercial) when you turn this 'task' into a real part (enjoyable part) of your work.

Arthur, do a web search for the two phrases "white label" and "social network" together and you'll see quite a few examples of self-hosted and remotely-hosted services that might begin to meet your requirements.

As with any system, though, it pays to spend up front time asking the types of policy and planning questions you raise before wading into software selection. I've used the term "strategic planning" to refer to the type of process you might follow in such a planning exercise.

Also, I applaud your mentioning email as part of the mix. It's becoming somewhat fashionable to beat up on email due to its lack of basic collaborative features but, like the term "Web 2.0," we seem destined to have to coexist with it!

I agree, blogging is a good testing ground for work--I know of a number of authors who load preliminary drafts of short stories and novel excerpts on their sites to gauge people's reactions. That's a bit too, er, collaborative an approach for me. I prefer to use my site as a promotional tool, using short stories and excerpts as "teasers" but as for asking people for their views and suggestions, sorry, not interested...

According to me, to get noticed, it is very important to do different things that are not expected from you. In the process, one has to compare himself with himself / herself of the previous day. The idea is to surpise ourself and analyze the changes whether they are towards sucess or not.
